Aston Martin on Ice 2014

aston-on-ice-2We’re taking a look at the whole Ice Driving genre this week. With heated seats, steering wheels, mirrors and windscreens all turned to the max in the northern hemisphere and your classic race car hibernating, here’s what looks to be a superb driving experience by Aston Martin.

Aston Martin on Ice runs a two venues, Lapland in the north of Sweden and St Moritz. If your James Bond of choice is Roger Moore, what could be better than the Kempinski Grand Hotel in St Moritz? Welcome champagne is Bollinger Special Cuvee and dining is in the five star restaurant.

However, the second venue is more our thing. We prefer our Bond as Brosnan and further north in Lapland, running on frozen lakes and spiked tyres on the vast open expanse of frozen water. For this one, you fly into Arvidsjaur Airport in the north of Sweden for a four day event, with two full days of ice driving in Aston Martins and staying at Hotel One-77….

Now that’s more like it.

Full details of the two programmes are available on the Aston Martin on Ice website. Places are booking up, looks like being a very successful event. Walther PPK not included.

Author: Neill Watson

If you love the sound of the Cosworth V8 as much as the V12 Merlin, the smell of Jet A1 as much as Castrol R and admire the late Ray Hanna as much as Sir Stirling, you’ll find you’re both on the same page. Neill's love of art deco buildings means that his ideal home would be a brilliant white, 1930′s control tower in Southern France, with crisply mown grass, biplane parked on the driveway and a Ferrari 288GTO in the garage. This is something that those around him tolerate, though it does concern them from time to time.
