The Thirty Year Wait For a Porsche 930 Turbo

This is a bitter sweet video for me to watch. No, it’s worse than that. it’s actually a little painful. The video itself is a lovely piece, telling the really nice story of a guy who managed to buy himself a Porsche 930 Turbo thirty years after he first saw that very car. It’s a cool story, so grab a coffee and take a load off.

For me, it’s a reminded of the 930 Turbo I used to own. The same body style, the same deep front spoiler that houses an additional oil cooler, nornally a tell tale sign of a factory engine upgrade, as mine was. The soundtrack gets me too. The crackling burble on the overrun as he [asses the camera and the raw growl of the drive by noise. For me, it’s that feeling you get when spotting your ex-girlfriend across the room, but with her new partner. Only the memory of the aroma isn’t perfume, it’s that red hot oil smell you get through the vents after a good blast along your favourite road.

I love this video and I miss my 930 Turbo. I hope it doesn’t take me thirty years to find a way to buy her back.

If you love the sound of the Cosworth V8 as much as the V12 Merlin, the smell of Jet A1 as much as Castrol R and admire the late Ray Hanna as much as Sir Stirling, you’ll find you’re both on the same page. Neill's love of art deco buildings means that his ideal home would be a brilliant white, 1930′s control tower in Southern France, with crisply mown grass, biplane parked on the driveway and a Ferrari 288GTO in the garage. This is something that those around him tolerate, though it does concern them from time to time.
