McLaren Le Mans Winner At Goodwood.

I still remember quite clearly when McLaren won LeMans with the F1/01R. One of those iconic images that stays in your mind, crossing the finish line, Union Jacks waving, door angled upwards showing the driver, the car utterly, utterly filthy in the best endurance racing tradition. That was 18 years ago…

This year at Goodwood, McLaren are celebrating their fiftieth anniversary by bringing along that they are claiming, quite rightly, is a ‘priceless display’ of F1’s. F1/01R is coming, together with the GTR Longtail and the one off prototype F1 LM finished in Papaya Orange.

And bringing them up to date will be the P1, making it’s public dynamic debut. Not sure it’s going to sound quite as cool as the BMW V12’s in the rear of those F1’s though.

Author: Neill Watson

If you love the sound of the Cosworth V8 as much as the V12 Merlin, the smell of Jet A1 as much as Castrol R and admire the late Ray Hanna as much as Sir Stirling, you’ll find you’re both on the same page. Neill's love of art deco buildings means that his ideal home would be a brilliant white, 1930′s control tower in Southern France, with crisply mown grass, biplane parked on the driveway and a Ferrari 288GTO in the garage. This is something that those around him tolerate, though it does concern them from time to time.
